Research Project at the Kolleg

The project "Racial sciences and psychology of the people during World War I. Central- and Eastern-Europe." searches for parallels between the so-called "Rassenlehre" and older traditions, such as the "Völkercharakterologie" of the 19th century. It will examine how these ideas were transferred Western Europe, Germany and Austria to Central eastern and South-eastern Europe. One aspect will include potential crossovers and imitations between different scientific discourses. The European discourse on womanhood and its influence on ethno-psychological analysis of "female" or "softened" nations is of special interest.
