The Imre Kertész Kolleg at the University of Jena supports the Invisible University for Ukraine by awarding short term junior research fellowships (1-3 months) to early career scholars. We invite applications from doctoral students working on modern and contemporary history or neighbouring disciplines such as sociology, anthropology, political sciences, philosophy, cultural studies, literary studies or linguistics with a focus on Ukraine and/or Central and Eastern Europe.
Aim: The aim of the programme is to give young researchers the opportunity to further their professional development, expand international cooperation and strengthen their networks. The research stay can be used for the conceptualization, literature research, material review, or writing of individual chapters of the dissertation. The research stays should ideally take place during the lecture period of the winter semester (November 2026 – March 2027). Selected candidates are expected to work at the Imre Kertész Kolleg and to reside in Jena for the duration of their scholarship. They are expected to present their project as part of the Kolleg’s Monday seminar or in another suitable academic format e.g., PhD seminar/study day and are strongly encouraged to participate in other academic events of the Kolleg.
Eligibility & Application: eligible are doctoral students, who are pursuing a project in the aforementioned fields and are affiliated with the Invisible University for Ukraine. Applicants are expected to submit a concise project proposal (up to a max. of 2 pages, with a short description of their dissertation project & their work plan during the stay in Jena) and a CV. The preferred starting date of the scholarship must be mentioned in the application, too.
